Work on massive-scale data

We're hiring!

We’re looking for data specialists to work with us on the UK’s biggest digital transformation.

Our digital community includes experts employed by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and BPDTS Ltd (a dedicated service provider for DWP) all working in inclusive, co-located and multi-disciplinary teams to create and transform digital services.

Data is at the heart of how we’re solving some of the country’s biggest digital challenges. And we don’t just work with big data, we work with massive data! We hold data for more than 20 million customers, with multiple billions of records and millions more being added daily.

Our data warehouse has over 230 terabytes of data. We deliver data-driven intelligence, products and services that enhance our services and make a real difference to our customers’ lives.

Head of role for Data Engineering, Corinne, talks about working with data and the types of roles we currently have available:

“I enjoy the challenge of solving problems that can make a real difference to people’s lives.

A lot of what we’re asked to find in our data can be difficult discover and awkward to manipulate – it requires insight and lateral thinking to deliver a good solution.

We load and process large volumes of structured and semi-structured data, and query the data to provide insight and intelligence.”

I get to use my skills to help identify and reduce fraud, maintain and improve system performance and help data scientists access the correct data for their analysis and queries.

We currently work in a Hortonworks ecosystem, using big data platforms such as Hadoop and Hive. But we’re soon moving to a Cloudera platform and I’m excited to be using new technologies such as Apache Spark and Kafka.”
