Job description
Associate Test Engineer: Up to £33,448 with 27% pension contributions, flexible working, work life balance and great benefits
DWP is engaged in a period of transformational change in order to ready ourselves for the developing data-centric world. This will involve not only a major technological transformation but also in terms of culture and organisational design.
Data & Analytics is at the heart of this, working to become the central nervous system of the department, providing a holistic data service to the organisation with safe, trusted and enriched data to drive the right decisions for our citizens and for DWP, through tools which meet business needs.
This is a big challenge, but also a big opportunity. You will get the chance to work on one of the biggest, most ambitious Digital transformation programmes in Europe. You will have the chance to use and stretch your abilities, strengthen your experience and continue your professional development in a supportive environment.
We’re offering a career-enhancing role where you will have access to the latest technologies and techniques to delivery meaningful, high profile work.
You will enjoy the security, flexibility and work-life balance that a brilliant civil service offers, and the chance to help put innovative digital solutions into hands of the people that need them most.
You and your role:
DWP Data Warehouse provides technical capability to acquire and make available new data sources, and develop any of the exploitation routes needed by internal and external DWP customers.
We are a mix of Statisticians and non-Analysts, specialising in areas such as requirement analysis, data modelling, data product design, data movement and transformation, testing, infrastructure management and live service provision.
Current technical tools include Oracle, SAS, Informatica and Business Objects, and we are always exploring ways in which to streamline business processes and deliver more value.
As an ETL Test Engineer, you will be responsible for the testing of applications which make up citizen services. This includes defining the appropriate depth and breadth of testing using a risk based approach, and ensuring the stability, robustness and reliability of test suites.
What skills, knowledge and experience are we looking for?
- Demonstrable experience with Test Scripting, Requirements Traceability and SQL
- Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle Processes
- You will have an understanding of both functional and non-functional testing techniques.
- You will have an awareness of Test principles (ISTQB etc.).
This role is primarily ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) testing so a knowledge of ETL, SQL, Informatica or Oracle is essential.
Where You’ll Work
You’ll join our team in our brilliant hub in either Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield. Find out more about your preferred location here: https://careers.dwp.gov.uk/our-locations/

- Flexible working and family friendly policies
- Volunteering and charitable giving
