Job description

Do you want to be part of something really big? If you’re creative and curious to learn, want to be empowered to make decisions and challenge the norm, and want to bring BIG ideas to a MASSIVE digital challenge then you’ll love it here. And we’d love to hear from you.

We are looking for Associate Test Engineers to work with us on a once-in-a-generation digital transformation.

At DWP Digital, we know that better digital services in government will mean better public services. Using fresh ideas and leading edge technologies – and putting the user at the centre of everything we do – we create innovative digital solutions that make a difference to the lives of our 22 million users.

Here you’ll receive on the job coaching, mentoring and support, working closely with and learning from our other experienced testers. You’ll also have access to loads of training and development, internal and external, with invites to conferences, meet-ups, events and more.

If you’re talented, ambitious and you want to be a part of a learning, buzzing test engineering community – and you want to use your skills to deliver stuff that really matters into the hands of millions of people that really need it – then you’ll be right at home here.

You and your role

You’ll join our brilliant VMER Test Team. Your work will involve test preparation and execution of Linux/Oracle based applications, so you’ll need functional knowledge of applications under test and technical knowledge of the architecture.

As Junior Test Engineer you will be responsible for contributing to the testing of applications critical to products and services used by millions of people across the UK, including friends, neighbours, family and some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

Working alongside talented VMER Testing teammates you will use your skills, and get invaluable experience, on large scale government projects. We’re the UK’s largest government department, undertaking a massive transformation of our services. You’ll have a critical role testing remediation of work that has been transitioned from one old code style to a new code style across platforms

Our junior test engineers do risk based test analysis to identify test scenarios/cases, and you’ll work with a range of stakeholders to coordinate this testing activity. You will use test tools such as ALM for test preparation, test execution and defect management, UFT for test automation and Loadrunner for performance testing.

It’s a broad and interesting role, where you’ll input to test plans, prepare, execute and monitor test cases in ALM, and automation of test cases in UFT, where you’ll use Autosys to run test execution batch jobs, check databases for expected results and monitor and manage the fall-out from failed tests. And lots more as the role and our organisation continues to evolve.

What are we looking for?

Where You’ll Work

You’ll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in either Blackpool or Newcastle(your preference).

We provide the latest tech and tooling and foster a collaborative culture to help our agile, multidisciplinary teams think big and try new things. You will work alongside people who care passionately about public service, making a difference and delivering for our customers.

In Blackpool you’ll enjoy great facilities including a gym, coffee shops, snack bars and a restaurant. We have lots of parking, and we share our site with wonderful wildlife including rabbits, birds, koi carp, and recently a family of otters. It’s a great place to work.

In Newcastle we’re really close to Longbenton Metro station. It’s a great site with loads of cool facilities, like our gym, our indoor sports court, our great restaurants, cafes and snack bars and loads more. It’s a really collaborative, friendly place where we host regular events and meet ups.

We’re the UK’s biggest government department with over 80,000 diverse and brilliant people on our team. We are an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications regardless of age, gender, race or sexuality.
