Job description

Digital Workplace Project. Digital with Purpose. DWP.

We’re looking for a talented Communications & Collaboration Tools Subject Matter Expert to join DWP’s Digital Workplace project and become a key part of one of the UK’s biggest and most high-profile digital transformation programmes. If you love solving problems and want to use your skills on projects with real impact, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re delivering a once-in-a-generation reform of products and services that will put world class technology solutions into the hands of the people that need them most, whether that’s the millions that access DWP services or our brilliant frontline colleagues.

If you have subject matter and/or product expertise with Collaboration and Communication tools like MS Teams and Skype, with experience in one or more areas of user adoption, user experience, service management, IT security, user road maps and/or maintaining a live service, then we’d love to hear from you.

What is Digital Workplace?

It’s big. Over the last two years diverse DWP Digital teams have established Digital Workplace, an agile and multi-disciplinary service that supports over 84,000 employees, using more than 150 distributed cloud applications, operating out of more than 800 UK sites, and powering digital products and services used by more than 20 million people across the UK.

It’s evolving. So far we’ve moved all of our systems to hybrid hosting, removing the constraints of previous outsourced IT contracts, modernising our legacy infrastructure and stabilising performance.

We’re improving communication and collaboration with a mix of new hardware including mini-PCs, Surface Pro laptops and a growing mobile phone network. By upgrading our software with the latest versions of Office 365, Skype for Business and our rebooted staff intranet we’re making sure our people always have the right tools and the latest professional digital skills.

It’s important we get it right. DWP deliver world-class digital solutions which touch the lives of millions of people, including some of the most vulnerable in our society. We’re creating a better working environment and experience for the people behind those solutions to ensure they stay equipped, motivated, informed and engaged.

What are we looking for?

As a manager of our Communications and Collaboration Tools operation, you will manage the evolution of a highly visible and key strategic platform. You’ll provide strategic and tactical thought leadership for the change programme management, user adoption, user experience and digital strategy ensuring we get the very best out of the communication and collaboration tools we have now, and that we’re using the right ones in future.

Working closely to support the Service Owner, you’ll be the expert voice informing decision relating to communications and collaboration tools. You’ll establish and communicate a clear direction for the products and change management programmes and service, whilst maintaining the high level roadmap.  You’ll also help to “keep the lights on” and maintain live service so our people are always connected.

What are we looking for?

Where will you work?

You’ll join us in our Newcastle hub, a modern, informal and collaborative working environment which is just a short walk from Longbenton Metro station.

Our facilities include two restaurants, catering pods and vending machines, sports facilities, cycle shelter, showers and Wudu washing facilities. Our Newcastle hub is also home to the GDS Academy, user experience lab and UX command centre.

In Digital Workplace we believe in giving you a working experience that meets your needs and expectations and that means a focus on work-life balance, flexible hours, team-based working and the ability to work from multiple locations.

We are an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications regardless of age, disability, gender, race or sexuality.

Our Offer

In return for your skills we offer competitive salary up to £39,674, a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions circa 27%, and a generous leave package. We also have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:
