You and your role

The Data Engineer – Data Modeller role sits right at the heart of that transformation.
This role presents an exciting opportunity to work with Digital leaders within the department and across government as part of the 17,000 strong DDaT profession. As Data Engineer – Data Modeller you will contribute to the overall Data Engineering Development Lifecycle Process.
We are looking for a someone to be responsible for developing accurate, efficient data solutions which meet customer needs to agreed timescales. You will bring your Experience of developing data solutions on Oracle, Cloudera or Horton Works platforms. You will provide leadership to develop Associate Data Engineers, providing technical guidance alongside other data engineering functions for customers.
This is a big challenge, but also a big opportunity. You will get the chance to work on one of the biggest, most ambitious Digital transformation programmes in the UK. What are we looking for?

Test Analysis – able to identify simple patterns and trends. Investigate problems and opportunities in existing processes and contributes to recommending solutions to these. Works with stakeholders to identify objectives and potential benefits available.
Programming & build – Designs, develops codes, tests, corrects and documents simple programs or scripts under the direction of others
Communicating, analysis & insight – Understand the appropriate media to communicate findings. Shapes and shares communications cognisant of the audience. Able to give tactical recommendations

Essential Technical Skills

• Expert level experience in the development of complex data routines and patterns.
• Knowledge of database architecture, relational database diagrams, dimensional modelling, data warehousing principles and integrity constraints
• Understanding of Data Engineer concepts – creating technical requirements using conceptual, logical and physical designs
• Essential to have experience of at least one programming language such as PL/SQL or Python
• Hands on experience of Erwin or comparable modelling software

Desirable Skills

Ideally it would be great if you have these skills …but not essential..

• Knowledge of data architecture concepts / technologies like data warehouse, data lakes, big data
• Experience of developing data solutions on Oracle, Cloudera or Horton Works platforms
• Experience in Informatica BDM, Sqoop or Kafka is beneficial
