DWP is the UK’s largest government department. We deliver products, service, support and payments to around 20 million people at key times in their lives.
The Business Performance and Planning team lead the business management function and capability to drive digital performance.
We are responsible for securing and allocating £850m of spend across Digital Group each year. The team help input into sourcing, securing and distributing funds to workforce, software and IT maintenance/transformation so that our Digital teams can deliver world class DWP products and services for the millions that use them.
In this role you will help DWP in running, maintaining and transforming services to achieve Digital’s Strategic outcomes.
This is a high profile role where you will be able to utilise your financial analysis management and business planning expertise to liaise with business partners and directors for preparing reports into Cabinet Office.

You’ll help provide and standardise financial management and assurance across Digital. You’ll ensure the effective management of resources and risks in the delivery of Digital’s plans within budget and in compliance with all DWP financial policies.
You’ll be responsible for…
- Forecasting and reporting to provide financial assurance of budget delivery.
- Support development and delivery of Digital strategy and business plan including all aspects of financial implications.
- Communicate with senior stakeholders and decision makers both inside and outside Digital Group to provide accurate information and, usually, a recommended course of action.
- Contribute to the development of the broader finance capability in collaboration with the functional Business Management teams.
- Use judgement in situations where circumstances fall outside of the available guidance in the formulation of the capability including training and setting standards and frameworks.
What skills and experience are we looking for?
- Ability to analyse and use a range of relevant, credible information from internal and external sources to support decisions and make recommendations
- Experience of financial planning, management and governance at Senior Leadership Level.
- Ability to negotiate and influence a variety of Stakeholders even where the outcome may result in unpopular decisions.
- Experience of working in a large Digital organisation, or demonstrable understanding of how large Digital organisations operate in the context of the role
- Act promptly to reassess workloads and priorities when there are conflicting demands to maintain own performance.
- Communicate in a straightforward, honest and engaging manner, sharing information as appropriate and checking understanding.
