This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and innovative ETL Developer to help us transform data management and data services. You will join our thriving Data & Analytics practice as part of the Fraud Error & Debt team transforming data management and data services in one of the highest-profile digital transformation programmes in Europe You’ll work on colossal data-lakes transforming raw data into quality data-sets.
You’ll join a motivated team who are focused on delivering excellent customer service, working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to create innovative solutions in a diverse and large scale operation.
The team deliver using the most appropriate methodology with expertise in both Waterfall and Agile ways of working.
We are looking for someone who has knowledge of both methodologies with an emphasis on Agile, who is enthusiastic, experienced and knowledgeable and can to rise to the transformation challenge and deliver successful Business outcomes.
You and your role
As an ETL Developer you are responsible for the development and maintenance activities for the delivery of quality data products and services to meet customer needs to agreed timescales.
You will work within the overall product development Lifecycle Processes within Data Engineering; learning about the agreed Data Architecture and Data Engineering principles and standards to ensure the systems are fit for purpose
You will ensure the stability, robustness and resilience of the products you design and build, and be in a position to affect changes to those products where necessary. You will maintain and support continuous improvement of data engineering standards and engage with stakeholders at all stages of the data engineering lifecycle, from pre- feasibility/discovery through to delivery.
What will I be doing?
- Reviewing business requirements to ensure they are clear and robust, and transform business and user requirements into reusable production ready code and / or effective data models.
- Engaging with data owners, suppliers, operations and end data users for data modelling for mapping specifications.
- Carrying out investigative work or research to investigate problems and identify possible solutions, preventing delivery of robust/quality products.
- Advising, guiding, negotiating, persuading, discussing and gaining understanding of issues.
- Responsibility for contact and communication with a range of people, to undertake data profiling investigations to support design work.
- Integration of a variety of source data, using judgement and guidance to determine the appropriate approach.
- Conducting proof of concept and discovery work to provide information and advice and recommend a course of action responsible for all day-to-day decisions relating to their own work and that of those they manage.
What skills & experience we are looking for?
- Experience in designing, developing and maintaining a range of ETL routines using SAP (Data Services)
- A working knowledge of SQL scripting preferable within a DB2 environment
- An ability to understand user stories/convert business requirements into technical data solutions and manageable tasks to be achieved during a Sprint window.
- Knowledge of the data engineering profession/principles/best practice, structured and unstructured data concepts, data exploitation patterns and data analysis
- A working knowledge and experience of Unix (AIX) /Putty
- Experience and knowledge of Data BI Visualisations SAP and Business Objects
- Ability to solve problems quickly and completely: strong personal planning and analytical skills and ability to plan the development of a query solution from a specification outline, to the required conclusion and to implement this solution using the tools available.
- Strong communication skills (both oral and written) ability to work effectively in a team and with wider stakeholders
- Experience of delivering using Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies
- Take user requirements and develop ETL Routines to provide expected outputs
- Manage the overnight ETL batch routines, ensuring data quality.
- Action Data Requests from internal and external areas of DWP, including ad-hoc requirements
- Manage the monthly MI / ETL release schedule.
- Design, develop and maintain ETL routines, using a multitude of sources / target outputs.
- Ensuring data quality and accuracy by formulating thorough test plans.
- Version control of code between Environments.
- Experience of using BI visualisation tools like BO and Qlik
- Experience of transforming and implementing MI Data Solutions in a complex, large scale and fast paced environment, developing innovative and quality solutions
