Job description

DWP. Digital with Purpose.

We are looking for a Head of our Interaction Design to lead DWP Digital’s vibrant and growing community of Interaction Design practitioners. We are transforming the way DWP delivers services to meet the evolving needs of society and our workforce of 86,000 and our 22 million users.

You’ll lead by example. You’ll promote your vision for-all round Interaction Design excellence and best-practice. We want you to be hands on in creating new Interaction Design and iteratively improving existing design for products and services across our many digital and offline channels.

You’ll have responsibility for our community of Interaction Designers. You’ll allocate IxD talent to the teams that need it, and make sure we have the skills and people we need to deliver through recruitment and learning.

You’ll be able to build big relationships at a senior level too, planning and leading discussions to make sure good, consistent design is at the centre of what we do here.

You’re an Interaction Design evangelist, and you’ll represent your community and profession within and without DWP. As a recognised expert and leader for Interaction Design, you’ll be a visible advocate and ambassador for user-centred and service-led approaches. And when our service teams and senior leaders have an expert level question about IxD strategy and best practice they’ll know who to ask.

What skills and experience are we looking for?

• You’re a visible and recognised digital leader capable of giving significant advice and guidance to others

• You have a proven track record of working from a digital perspective, including iterating Interaction Design for complex situations

• You have experience of engaging multidisciplinary teams with a user-centred design process and of explaining design decisions in a way that a wide range of colleagues can understand

• You have experience of user centred agile & design practices (DDaT)

• You are an expert for a specialist profession, leading in the field of Interaction Design for digital services

Where will you work?
You’ll join our team with a base office at one of our Digital Hubs at either Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, London OR Sheffield.

We have the tech and tools we need to enable our people to work flexibly, and many of us are working remotely at the moment due to COVID-19.

Please note – as C-19 restrictions ease, frequent travel to other DWP Digital hubs around the country will be required for this role plus an expectation that you will represent DWP Digital at events.

We’re the UK’s biggest government department with over 80,000 diverse and brilliant people on our team. We are an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications regardless of age, gender, race or sexuality.

We provide the latest tech and tooling and foster a collaborative culture to help our agile, multidisciplinary teams think big and try new things. You will work alongside people who care passionately about public service, making a difference and delivering for our customers.
