Job description

DWP. Digital with Purpose.

We’re looking for talented Infrastructure Engineer with a background in IT Systems Management Tooling to join our growing community of experts and become a key part of one of the biggest and highest-profile digital transformation programmes in the world.

You and your role

You’ll join a , and a wider infrastructure community, committed to designing, developing, deploying and supporting core IT services that DWP systems that are used by millions of people in every day.

These services provide the monitoring necessary to know how healthy a network, server or application is and how datacentres are structured. We also enable capture of Software Asset information so our central Asset team can make sure we are correctly and efficiently licensed.

You will also assist with managing the platform and underlying infrastructure that allows remote access to the DWP datacentres for engineers across the Digital organisation.

You should be confident remotely accessing servers via Remote Desktop Services. We operate a variety of systems including Windows and various flavours of UNIX.

In addition to our datacentre hosted servers we also work with servers located in various public clouds so knowledge of these would be beneficial. And if not you’ll have chance to learn on the job from a range of experienced engineers and other digital experts from across a multi-disciplinary operation.

What are we looking for?

• You have experience of IT Infrastructure services or applications within a large scale organisation.
• You have experience of troubleshooting and resolving issues involving technologies across a variety of platforms.
• You can communicate effectively at different levels, across support and engineering, business users, architecture and suppliers.
• You have deployed technologies across a variety of IT platforms.
• You keep up to date with changing technologies and understand how they could be applicable to the current business.
• You have experience of working within an ITIL framework.

Knowledge/ Experience of software used to support the following technologies is desirable too:

• Systems Management
• Event Management
• Discovery Tooling
• Automated Patching
• Software Asset Management
• Application Performance Management
• Network Performance Management
• Data Centre Infrastructure Management.
