Job description
Want to be part of something really big? If you’re creative and curious to learn, want to be empowered to make decisions and challenge the norm, and want to bring BIG ideas to a MASSIVE digital challenge then you’ll love it here. And we’d love to hear from you.
We are looking for talented Developers and Engineers to work with us on one of the biggest transformation programmes in Europe, providing services that have far-reaching and pivotal roles in citizens’ lives. You’ll be joining a team working on the most demanding, high profile and exciting new digital service for the UK Government.
In BPDTS Ltd you will be part of an organisation responsible for the delivery of digital platforms and services, real-time analytics and flexible infrastructure, providing secure and resilient services to DWP.
What are we looking for?
- Experience of implementing Software Engineering best practices.
- Experience of translating and communicating highly technical concepts to both technical personnel and non-IT business users.
- Significant experience of development using: Java 1.8 / JEE or J2EE / XML and SOAP
- Experience with SQL.
- Experience with Java-stack source control and build tools: ANT / Subversion/GIT
- Experience with Java-stack testing tools
- Experience of working within an Agile Software development framework using SCRUM or Kanban
You and your role
Like us, you’ll be driven by a desire to deliver something with the power to improve people’s lives. You aren’t bothered about titles or hierarchy; what really excites you is problem-solving and the opportunity to deliver innovative technology that carries real value for users. You will draw value from collaboration with others, actively seek input from colleagues and thrive as part of a multidisciplinary team.
You’ll work with DWP’s Personal Independent Payment (PIP) team. It’s massive. PIP is a major DWP benefit system, paying circa 50 million per night in benefits to over 2 million people, with 3,000 DWP users across the UK estate processing claims.
Our team provides a service developing and implementing business changes, application fixes to the core PIP software, a number of one off developments, proof-of-concepts and more to help improve the experience for the many people who rely on DWP’s services.
The main application (PIPCS) is based on the IBM Curam Social Programme Software, which we’ve heavily customised to meet DWP requirements. We have a number of large changes in the pipeline to support Government programs which you’ll be involved with these from day one.
You’ll have lots of support too. Working closely with experience team-members initially, you’ll also have access to Curam coaching and training. The first thing you’ll be working on is helping to develop a complex automated testing suit as we look to introduce more complexed automated testing tools for System Test, Regression Test, and some areas of Performance Test. This work is key to our short term aims, and to support our medium-long term strategy.
Where will you work?
BPDTS Ltd provides dedicated services to the Department for Work and Pensions. Our digital, data and technology specialists work closely with experts in DWP Digital’s community to make digital services quicker, simpler and more efficient for the millions of people that use them.
You’ll join us in our brilliant digital hub in Blackpool. It’s a beautiful site we share with wild rabbits, birds, koi carp, dogwalkers and a family of otters. They don’t get to use the great facilities like our gym, coffee shops and restaurant though.
Our PIP team has grown from something small, with the feel of a start-up, to something a lot bigger. But we’ve kept the same spirit and sense of community.
We are an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications regardless of age, gender, race or sexuality.
What is our offer?
- We’ll reward you with a very competitive salary of up to £52,925
- You will be eligible for a pension with employer contributions of up to 10%
- We can offer you a performance-related annual bonus of up to 10%
- We’ll help you balance your life and work
- We’ll give you a generous leave allowance, with the option to buy and sell extra days
- We offer learning and development and career progression opportunities to everyone
We also offer much more as part of a flexible benefits package – including a cycle to work scheme and lots of family friendly perks – which can be tailored to your lifestyle.
