DWP. Digital with Purpose.

We’re looking for Lead Solution Architects to join a small team of solution architects who are working with DWP’s Health & Working Age team.

Health and Working Age includes benefits and services like Personal Independent Payment, Employment and Support Allowance, Access to Work and Industrial Injuries. We help people access the support they need to live independently, and help support carers, by designing innovative accessible, available, and user-driven government services.

Health and Working Age covers a number of large scale projects and initiatives. You’ll be designing and delivering technical and architectural solutions across all of these, that will meet the needs of our users and align with DWP technical strategy and standards.

Your role will be providing a consistent set of solution views. You’re a great communicator making the complex simple to understand for stakeholders of all levels. And you actively champion Architecture best practice and solution communication

Working with engineering teams, policy, legal, and other Digital stakeholders you will be instrumental in creating VFM solution designs. You will ensure technical quality and thatn solution designs adhere to digital Blueprints, Enterprise Architecture and Product Roadmaps.

You will be managing, coaching and mentoring a team of Solution Architects and the associated architecture design backlogs, so you’ll have a real opportunity to shape DWP’s architecture capability and practice.

We are looking for someone with skills and experience in:

• Architecture design and modelling techniques, patterns, tools and standards.

• Public cloud technologies, cloud hosting, container, and networking design patterns, tools and best practice (e.g. Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform).

• Microservice and API-led architecture and integration design tools, techniques and best practice.

• Event-based architecture design, patterns (including pub-sub and data streaming), modelling techniques, tools
and standards.

• Agile / DevOps delivery methodologies and best practice.

• Shaping and supporting technology initiatives, projects, programmes and portfolios.

Where will you work?
You’ll join our team with a base office at one of our Digital Hubs at Newcastle and Leeds.

We have the tech and tools we need to enable our people to work flexibly, and many of us are working remotely at the moment due to COVID-19.
