Job description
DWP. Digital with Purpose.
DWP is the UK’s largest government department. We deliver products and services that are used by millions of people in the UK, every day and at key moments in their lives.
Using fresh ideas and leading edge technologies – and putting the user at the centre of everything we do – we create innovative, scalable digital solutions that make a difference to the lives of our 22 million users and to our amazing DWP colleagues.
We’re hiring a Senior Product Owner to work on our Infrastructure and Network Services team. Here’s how one of our current teams sees the role:
We’re currently recruiting for a Senior Product Owner for the Infrastructure Services Team at DWP Digital – an exciting role working on one of Europe’s biggest transformation projects.
Infrastructure Services and Networks has a very technical ring to it. Our official job title is Infrastructure Engineer – Network Services Product Owner.
If that sounds really techy, please don’t let that put you off. While we’re looking for an understanding of Network Tech and experience of delivering Networks projects, you definitely don’t need to be an engineer or technician for this job.
We do have many engineering brains, but our team is made up of so many different skill sets, not just highly skilled engineers.
That’s why it works and it’s how we are able to build and maintain one of the most intelligent network infrastructures in Government and across Europe.
As our Product Owner you will be responsible for a product set and ensuring performance, building relationships across the organisation to optimise the service delivery, managing finances and budgets, setting the direction and the roadmap.
You’ll be managing commercial relationships with suppliers to make sure we’re achieving a great return on investment. And you’re responsible for setting standards, embedding continuous improvement and looking for ways we can do things better.
It is a really exciting time to join our team as we go through our transformation programme and you could be part of that. We are a strong, welcoming and passionate team who are eager to learn from others and to keep driving each other forward.
If you have the following skills and experience, we’d love an application from you:
- Have experience of project management and developing repeatable services, balancing quality and cost
- Have experience of service delivery reporting, including producing presentations and reports
- Are a great communicator, can build great relationships with colleagues, and work collaboratively with people at all levels and from backgrounds including engineers, architects, suppliers and business users.
- Have supported and motivated the growth, development and high development of a team
- Have an aptitude for developing and learning new skills
- Have experience of delivering large scale Network transformation projects
- Have a working knowledge of network infrastructures and technologies, specifically Cisco routing and switching firewalls, SD-WAN and emerging Network Technologies.
Details. Wages. Perks.
You’ll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in your choice of Manchester, Newcastle or Blackpool. Find out more about our hubs here: https://careers.dwp.gov.uk/our-locations/
We also have all the tools and tech we need to enable our people to work flexibly, and many of us are working remotely at the moment due to COVID-19.
In return for your skills we offer competitive salary up to £59,589, a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth over 27%, and a generous leave package.
We also have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:
- Flexible working
- Family friendly policies
- Bring your authentic self to work with ‘I can be me in DWP’
- Working in a culture and environment shortlisted for ‘Best place to work in digital’: https://bit.ly/34FcGoy
- Volunteering and charitable giving
- Discounts and savings on shopping, fun days out and more
- Interest-free loans to buy a bike or a season ticket, so it’s even easier for you to get to work and start making a difference
- Sports and social activities
- Professional development, coaching, mentoring and career progression opportunities.
