Job description
If you’re creative and curious to learn, want to be empowered to make decisions and challenge the norm, and want to bring BIG ideas to a MASSIVE digital challenge then you’ll love it here. And we’d love to hear from you.
We’re looking for talented Senior Agile Delivery Managers to join our growing community of experts and become a key part of one of the biggest and highest-profile digital transformation programmes in the world.
Using fresh ideas and leading edge technologies – and putting the user at the centre of everything we do – we create innovative digital solutions that make a difference to the lives of our 22 million users.
Right now, there is an opportunity to shape the way DWP and the rest of government do things. You can help us model and mould future, better ways of working. You’ll change product teams that deliver services into product teams that own and deliver outcomes without fear of failure.
You’ll deliver transformational services that have the power to change DWP, and to change the lives of our friends, families and neighbours and some of the most vulnerable people in the UK.
You and your role
We’re looking for skilled Agile Delivery Managers to join our team. For this senior role you will likely have at least a couple of years’ direct experience of Agile Delivery at a good working level.
The work we do is big, important and exciting, and you’ll need to have a good knowledge of agile tools and techniques as well as experience bringing clarity, visibility and coherence to complex projects
Here you will provide agile leadership to a multi-disciplinary agile team. And you’ll help embed agile principles and practices across the wider organisation and build relationships with senior stakeholders.
A big part of your role will be managing team dynamics. You’ll build motivated, self-managing teams that are energised, work well and have confidence to experiment, learn from mistakes, and create a real “safe to fail” environment.
While Agile working is already embedded in DWP Digital we are still on our journey. You’ll help mature our agile knowledge and processes. You’ll help us be less vertical and more horizontal in our projects, helping us share data upstream.
What are we looking for?
- You need to have a natural ability to understand and influence people in a positive way and the skills to motivate teams to achieve set goals
- You will have experience of agile delivery techniques, tools and methodologies
- You will have excellent stakeholder engagement skills and experience of managing stakeholders at a senior level
Where you’ll work
You’ll join us in one of our brilliant, easy-to-reach digital hubs situated in Blackpool, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield. Each of our sites has been designed for and by members of our digital community. We provide the latest tech and tooling and foster a collaborative culture to help our agile, multidisciplinary teams think big and try new things.
You will work alongside people who care passionately about public service, making a difference and delivering for our customers. We’re the UK’s biggest government department with over 80,000 diverse and brilliant people on our team. We are an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications regardless of age, gender, race or sexuality.
Our offer
In return for your skills we offer competitive salary up to £57,688, a brilliant civil service pension, and a generous leave package.
We also have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:
- Flexible working
- Family friendly policies
- Volunteering and charitable giving
- Discounts and savings on shopping, fun days out and more
- Interest-free loans to buy a bike or a season ticket, so it’s even easier for you to get to work and start making a difference
- Sports and social activities
- And lots more
Why join our team?
Our teams and projects, like Check Your State Pension and Find a Job have won all sorts of awards, nominations and recognition. If you want to shape the ongoing success of an award winning, industry-recognised team then Agile Delivery in DWP is a great place to start.
We are a community that believes in nurturing the talent of our Delivery Managers and we have a defined L&D budget to support this. You will have a defined career path with lots of opportunities to progress, develop and expand your knowledge base and skill set. You’ll share ideas with colleagues from across the tech community, and grow your skills and the skills of those you work with via our coaching and mentoring programmes.
We offer training in a variety of areas including as Scrum, Kanban and coaching, as well as keeping our Delivery community up-to-date with the latest developments and best practice in Agile. Our Delivery Managers also work closely with Software Engineering colleagues to develop a better understanding and knowledge of the practice.
