Job description

Better digital services in government will mean better public services for the people that need them most.

We’re looking for Senior Content Designers to help transform the culture and services of the Department for Work and Pensions. You will help us become more agile and make sure that user interactions with the government are as straightforward as possible.

In this role you will build strong relationships with expert colleagues including user researchers, digital developers and designers and work together to make crucial services dramatically easier to use. You will promote user-centred content design in DWP, across government and beyond.

Our Content Designers identify user needs and meet these needs with the right content. We use data and research to make the right content decisions. We produce accurate and concisely written content, using plain English and working with style guides to deliver the best possible result for DWP and for the millions of people who use our products and services every day.

About you
You’ll have plenty of online editorial experience, working within multi-disciplinary teams and focusing on users’ needs. You’ll be able to show how you’ve made content progressively better with ongoing research, expert advice and data.

You’ll know how to show users the right content in the right place and in the best format. Working on end-to-end journeys, you’ll make sure these users can readily complete their goal and that the service meets policy intent.

An experienced practitioner, you’ll have the skills to take a high-level view of how a user’s content journey maps to government processes. You’ll develop content for complex transactional and information services, working with digital and non-digital content.

Leading and supporting on discussions as a content expert, you’ll review the work of others and be an expert source of advice on the best content design tools and methods.

As a Senior Content Designer you will:

Where you’ll work
You’ll join a thriving user-centred design community in one of our digital hubs in either Sheffield or Blackpool. Get in touch to find out more about your preferred location and the great facilities you’ll have access to.

DWP is the UK’s biggest government department with over 80,000 diverse and brilliant people on our team. We are an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications regardless of age, gender, race or sexuality.

Building our future
We believe the work we do really matters, so we’re serious about investing in your ability.

You’ll have access to a huge suite of training and learning opportunities to complement the new skills and experience you’ll acquire on the job.

You’ll share ideas with colleagues from across the tech community, and grow your skills via our coaching and mentoring programmes.
