Job description

If you’re creative and curious to learn, want to be empowered to make decisions and challenge the norm, and want to bring BIG ideas to a MASSIVE digital challenge then you’ll love it here. And we’d love to hear from you!

We’re looking for talented Data Scientists to join our growing community of experts and become a key part of one of the biggest and highest-profile digital transformation programmes in the world.  Using fresh ideas and leading edge technologies – and putting the user at the centre of everything we do – we create innovative digital solutions that make a difference to the lives of our 22 million users.

About you

DWP are seeking data scientists who are able to discover patterns in data and embed that insight in new and innovative ways. This is a genuine and exciting opportunity to help the Department in transforming the lives of almost 20 million people including families, pensioners and the disabled who need our help.

The Department as a whole is undergoing a major digital transformation programme and data science is recognised as having a critical role to play. Not only is that in the better design of our services but also making them more personalised for each individual’s circumstances and making big shifts in our effectiveness and efficiency.

What are we looking for?

Where you’ll work

We have easy-to-reach digital hubs – modern and vibrant workplaces, designed for and by our communities – in London, Newcastle or Sheffield.

In return for your skills we offer a competitive salary, a brilliant civil service pension, and a generous leave package. We have a fantastic benefits package built around your work-life balance including flexible working, charitable giving, discounts on shopping and fun days out, and lots more.

And we’ll give you an interest-free loan to buy a bike or a season ticket, so it’s even easier for you to get to work and start making a difference.

Building our future

We believe the work we do really matters, so we’re serious about investing in your ability.

You’ll have access to a huge suite of training and learning opportunities to complement the new skills and experience you’ll acquire on the job, as well as the chance to share knowledge with colleagues from across the tech community and via our coaching and mentoring programmes.
