Job description
If you’re creative and curious to learn, want to be empowered to make decisions and challenge the norm, and want to bring BIG ideas to a MASSIVE digital challenge then you’ll love it here. And we’d love to hear from you.
We’re looking for a talented Senior Technical (Solution) Architect – Integration to join our growing community of experts and become a key part of one of the biggest and highest-profile digital transformation programmes in the world.
Using fresh ideas and leading edge technologies – and putting the user at the centre of everything we do – we create innovative digital solutions that make a difference to the lives of our 22 million users.
You and your role
As a Senior Technical (Solution) Architect you will help DWP make the best use of existing technology, and make considered decisions about future technology investments needed to transform our technology architecture. You will support the development of DWP’s Architecture practice by sharing best practice and reference architectures to ensure consistency and coherence of architecture design across DWP.
You will build relationships and work collaboratively with Enterprise Architects, Domain Architects, Lead Solution Architects and engineering teams to implement solutions according to agreed and approved architecture designs.
You are comfortable working in multi supplier environment/platform, managing high-level stakeholder requirements through to solution design and on to implementation and delivery.
And you’ll relish the challenge of working for the UK’s largest government department, one with responsibility for over £170 billion worth of payments, and for products and services used by millions of people.
What skills, knowledge and experience are we looking for?
For this role we welcome applications from those with practical experience of AT LEAST ONE of the following ‘specialisms’, with skills/knowledge across the others also desirable:
• Architecture design and modelling techniques, tools and standards
• Integration / middleware architecture, frameworks, design patterns and technologies e.g. Red Hat JBoss Fuse, IBM WebSphere.
• API Gateway capabilities, such as traffic control, security, logging, monitoring, and authentication e.g. Kong API Gateway.
• Agile / DevOps delivery methodologies and best practice.
• Microservice and API-led architecture and integration design tools, techniques and best practice.
• Public cloud technologies, e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), cloud hosting and networking design patterns, tools and best practice.
Where will you work?
You’ll join us at our brilliant digital hub in Newcastle. A real centre for digital expertise and innovation in the North East, we host meet-ups and events and collaborate across government and beyond. We’re just a very short walk from Longbenton Metro station.
We provide the latest tech and tooling and foster a collaborative culture to help our agile, multidisciplinary teams think big and try new things. You will work alongside people who care passionately about public service, making a difference and delivering for our customers.
We’re the UK’s biggest government department with over 80,000 diverse and brilliant people on our team. We are an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications regardless of age, gender, race or sexuality.
