We are looking for a talented Senior Test Engineer to work with us on a once-in-a-generation digital transformation of these services.
150,000 DWP colleagues and agents are currently working hard to support the millions of people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. It’s never been more important that we deliver high quality, robust and available online services. Our Test Engineers are central to that effort.
Within the DWP Digital’s Testing Practice we’re developing our capability through the use of automation, agile principles, and implementing modern tools and technologies to deliver high quality services that make a difference to the lives of real people.

You’ll help us build and maintain digital services for benefits associated to retirement, bereavement and care. It’s a diverse portfolio of services but includes big ticket digital services like Get Your State Pension, Check Your State Pension, Pension Credit, Seasonal Payments, Bereavement Payment, Carers Digital, Tell Us Once, and Find My Pension.
Our Tech
You can expect to work with the following, and much more:
- Cucumber
- Selenium
- Java
- GIT
- Jenkins (although migrating to Gitlab CI)
- SQL
- IntelliJ (or similar IDE)AWS infrastructure
- JiraConfluence
- linux or unix (bash) CLI
You’ll need to have the skills and experience to:
- Make effective decision and drive the strategic direction for product teams and the Test Engineering community.
- Lead multiple Test Engineering teams, providing technical leadership and guidance, and ensuring a high quality service.
- Lead delivery of testing activities, ensuring that quality, time and cost objectives are met.
- Define the approach for test infrastructure setup and use outputs to drive technical improvements.
- Identify and implement use of appropriate technical test tools.
- Drive standardisation by sharing reusable libraries and services, experience, and lessons learned with other DWP teams.
- Drive development of automated test suites and continuous integration
- Drive collaboration by aligning what teams are working on and highlighting the key dependencies, impacts and priorities.
- Lead community discussions around the latest technology trends, tools, and best practices within Test Engineering.
