This accessibility statement applies to DWP Digital Careers.

This website is run by the Department for Work and Pensions. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate all of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to all of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • we do not currently have a sitemap
  • there is missing text in job cards when changing the text spacing
  • the tabbing order of the repeated links at the top is not logical
  • some images do not contain alt text
  • some buttons are labelled as links
  • the web page title is DWP Digital Careers for all the pages
  • social media icons such as Facebook, Twitter etc fail colour contrast

Users of JAWS 18 or 19 and Zoomtext may find that some headings are not read out when using Internet Explorer 11. This is a known issue with Freedom Scientific software. You should be able to resolve this issue by using a different browser.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The Department for Work and Pensions is committed to making this service accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.

This service is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Images need alt text

Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

We plan to add text alternatives for all images by November 2024. When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.

Tables are not correctly labelled

The three tables on DWP Digital Careers Cookies are not labelled. Columns and rows are not labelled so JAWS does not announce where you are in the table when selecting a row or a column. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (info and relationships).

We plan to add labels to this table by November 2024. When we publish new table content we’ll make sure to label them correctly.

Social media icons fail colour contrast

All Social Media active icons such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. fail colour contrast. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.11 (non-text contrast).

We plan to resolve this issue by November 2024. The colour contrast of any icons used in future will be considered to ensure it meets accessibility standards.

Text Spacing

There is missing text in all job cards when changing the text spacing on DWP Digital Careers Jobs and DWP Digital Careers Agile Delivery. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.12 (text spacing).

We plan to resolve this issue by November 2024.

The web page titles are the same across all pages

The web page title is DWP Digital Careers for every webpage, so it does not indicate which web page the user is viewing. Each web page should have a unique title to allow screen reader users to know which page they are focussed on. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.2 (page titled).

We plan to resolve this issue by November 2024. When creating new pages in the future, we will consider the title of each page to ensure it meets accessibility standards.

The tabbing order of the repeated links at the top is not logical across all the web pages

The tabbing order of the repeated links at the top of DWP Agile Delivery and DWP Digital Careers Birmingham is not logical, and does not follow the same order as the other pages. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.3 (focus order).

We plan to resolve this issue by November 2024. When creating new pages in the future, we will maintain consistency in the tabbing order to ensure it is logical across all web pages.

Multiple ways to locate a page

There is only one way for users to locate a page, by navigating through each level of the site until they reach it. There is no search function, site map, etc. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.5 (multiple ways).

We plan to resolve this issue by November 2024 by publishing a sitemap, if possible.

Headings and labels

Across all pages, the first “Join our mailing list” button is labelled as a heading level 2 when this is not a heading. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.6 (headings and labels).

We plan to resolve this issue by November 2024. When creating new pages in the future, we will correctly label headings and buttons to maintain accessibility.

Identification of buttons

There is inconsistent identification of buttons on DWP Digital Careers and DWP Digital Our Stories. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 3.2.4 (consistent identification).

On both webpages, the button at the bottom of the page to join the mailing list is called ‘Subscribe for updates’. At the top of the page, and on other pages, it’s called ‘Join our mailing list’.

We plan to resolve this issue by November 2024. When creating new pages in the future, we will use consistent identification of buttons across webpages.

Error identification and error suggestion

On the DWP Digital Careers Newsletter sign up, if you do not select specialisms and interests, it moves the focus with no error message so when zoomed in, you cannot see why or what the error is and JAWS does not read out any error message on page. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 3.3.1 and 3.3.3 (error identification).

We plan to resolve this issue by November 2024.

Link labels

On DWP Digital Careers Agile Delivery webpage, mailing list buttons are labelled as links when they should be buttons. This impacts Dragon users, as the links with certain words in them are not labelled. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2 (name, role, value).

We plan to resolve this issue by November 2024. In the future, we will correctly label links to ensure accessibility of DWP Digital Careers.
