Job description
Better digital services in government will mean better public services for the people that need them most
We’re looking for Content Designers to help transform the culture and services of the Department for Work and Pensions. You will help us become more agile and make sure that user interactions with the government are as straightforward as possible.
In this role you will work closely with user researchers, digital developers and designers to make crucial services dramatically easier to use. And you’ll promote user-centred content design within the department and beyond.
Our Content Designers identify user needs and meet these needs with the right content. We use data and research to make the right content decisions. We produce accurate and concisely written content, using plain English and working with style guides to deliver the best possible result for DWP and for the millions of people who use our products and services every day.
About you
You’ll have plenty of online editorial experience, working within multi-disciplinary teams and focusing on users’ needs.
You’ll be able to show how you have made content progressively better by using ongoing research, expert advice and data.
You can create new content and improve existing content – making sure users get the right content in the right format in the right place.
Working on end-to-end journeys – digital and non-digital – you’ll make sure users can readily complete their goal and that the service meets policy intent.
We want to build an engaged and active community of Content Designers. You will have the drive to become an active member of the content design community, always contributing to knowledge of best practices.
As a Content Designer you will:
- have experience of working in an Agile environment and from a digital perspective
- know how to use analytics data and user research to make content design decisions
- be able to handle constructive criticism of your work and to constructively review other people’s work
Building our future
We believe the work we do really matters, so we’re serious about investing in your ability.
You’ll have access to a huge suite of training and learning opportunities to complement the new skills and experience you’ll acquire on the job.
You’ll share ideas with colleagues from across the tech community, and grow your skills via our coaching and mentoring programmes.
