Job description
DWP. Digital with Purpose.
We want a Digital Capability Manager to join our team and help DWP Digital build and hire the talent we need to power a once-in-a-generation transformation of products and services that used by 85,000 colleagues and over 22 million people.
What’s a Digital Capability Manager?
Our Capability Managers support and shape the development and implementation of DWP Digital’s Capability Strategy.
You’ll sit within our brilliant, supportive Digital People & Resource Team. We help deliver recruitment across DWP Digital, working with both internal and external partners to ensure capability requirements are met using the right resourcing route. It’s all about finding the best way to get the skills we need into the right place as quickly as we can.
If you are a self-starter who can work collaboratively with a number of partners and stakeholders – internal and external – and you have an eye for innovative solutions, then we’d love to hear from you.
Delivering with People: About your role…
Your main focus is managing contract and contingent labour recruitment, especially in the successful and smooth onboarding of successful candidates.
You’ll work closely with a Senior Capability Manager to deliver against demanding resourcing plans and meet the capability needs of DWP Digital. You’ll help our functions and practices build, hire and land the skills they need to meet DWP’s immediate and future priorities.
You’ll work closely with different business areas in DWP Digital to understand and deliver their resourcing needs as quickly as possible.
You will need to have the ability to build big, strong relationships, and react to changing priorities. It’s a demanding and fast-paced environment where you’ll need to make sure the team, partners and our stakeholders are engaged and motivated to deliver.
You will also have line management responsibilities for a small team, where we’re all accountable for how the team performs. You’ll empower team-mates, and work to solve problems and resolve issues. You’ll help us build capability and drive excellence in our team too, by setting, tracking and managing meaningful performance targets.
What skills, knowledge and experience are we looking for?
- You have experience of managing teams to deliver a quality service within a complex and demanding environment. This is probably the most important experience point for us.
- You can build and maintain trust and relationships with key stakeholders and partners
- You ensure teams, stakeholders and partners have a clear understanding of objectives, activities and time-frames, taking into account different individual needs, views and ideas.
- You are a champion of inclusion and equality of opportunity for all.
- You encourage ideas and innovation from a wide range of sources.
- You can work with others to identify areas for improvement and simplify processes – using technology where possible – to increase efficiency and enhance the customer service.
- You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills complimented by good working knowledge of MS Office applications.
Where will you work?
You’ll join us in your choice of our brilliant digital hubs in either Manchester or Blackpool. Find out more about our working in our hubs here: https://careers.dwp.gov.uk/our-locations/
We also have all the tools and tech we need to enable our people to work flexibly, and many of us are working remotely at the moment due to COVID-19.

We offer competitive salary from £31,989 to £34,285. You’ll also join a brilliant pension scheme with employer contributions worth over 27%, and a generous leave package. We also have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:
