Job description
Do you want to be part of something big?
Do you have experience as a Head of HR, HR Director or People Lead? Can you deliver HR and People solutions that really work for a young tech/digital organisation and its people?
Are you people-centric, creative, pragmatic and operationally focused? And are you ready to be part of a massive digital transformation?
Then you’ll love it here, and we’d love to hear from you!
You and your role
We are BPDTS Ltd. We provide technology services to the UK’s largest government Department, DWP. A young and growing organisation, we have the look and feel of a tech start-up but we work within the public sector, delivering real change with a tangible impact on society.
In just 2 years we have doubled in size in a period of rapid growth. As our Head of People you will help us triple in size and take us to the next level.

In this role, you’ll create an environment where HR is collaborative rather than a remote authority. You are an enabler, and not a gatekeeper. You empower our organisation to be the best it can be.
You’ll help our teams work in a way that, as experts in their field, they know is best. You solve problems, give permission, open doors and make things happen.
You have the gravitas, authority and responsibility and accountability of an HR Director and you can use this to ask “how can I help?”.
We are passionate about empowering, enabling, supporting and motivating the talented tech experts at the heart of our organisation. We want to ensure our organisation is a great place to work.
You will help us attract and retain high-level digital/tech professionals. You will create a space where flexibility and work life balance are key, where people can thrive and deliver without hierarchy and bureaucracy.
We’re not there yet, but you’ll get involved in whatever needs to be done. You’ll help us get there.
What are we looking for?
- You have previous experience of working in an HR Director or Head of People role, operating as part of an Executive Team and presenting at Board level
- You have a track record of delivery of excellent people services to support an operational business
You’re great at stakeholder management and have excellent communication skills with a strong focus on being able to build effective relationships and influence at senior levels
You’re a confident decision maker who is able to take ownership for large portfolios of work and the associated accountabilities
You have experience making data-based decisions, utilising MI and measuring success through KPIs to evaluate the progress of the people agenda and identify areas for future focus
Ideally but not mandatory, a fully qualified member of the Chartered Institute for Personal Development (CIPD)
Where will you work?
BPDTS Ltd provides dedicated services to the Department for Work and Pensions.
Our digital, data and technology specialists work closely with experts in DWP Digital’s community to make digital services quicker, simpler and more efficient for the millions of people that use them. Our mission is to be the partner of choice for DWP for tech services and an employer of choice for the very best tech talent.
We’re genuinely a different option to both civil service and private sector for tech experts. We’re the third way – nimble, flexible and agile like a small tech co, but with responsibility and the ability to make a difference to society, to do work in the public interest with the power to change lives.
Your role will be based in your choice of our easy-to-reach digital hubs in either London, Sheffield, Manchester, Leeds, Blackpool or Newcastle. There will be some travel to other hubs: https://careers.dwp.gov.uk/dwp-digital-hub-locations/

We have a range of facilities across the sites including coffee shops and restaurants, table tennis, yoga, a swimming pool, gym facilities and loads more. Get in touch to find out more about your preferred location.

• You will be eligible for a pension with employer contributions of up to 10%
• We can offer you a performance-related annual bonus of up to 10%
• We’ll help you balance your life and work
• We’ll give you 25 days’ annual leave, with the option to buy and sell days
