Job description
Do you want to be part of something really big? If you’re a digital leader, and an agile evangelist, and you want to be empowered to make decisions, transform teams and challenge the norm then you’ll love it here. And we’d love to hear from you.
DWP are looking for a Head of Role for Agile Delivery Management to work with us on in a once-in-a-generation digital transformation.
With more than 80,000 people working for DWP and 22 million people accessing our services every day, we’re a massive organisation with unique challenges and drivers. We believe world class agile delivery is the key to better digital services and better public services.
The work we do will change how people interact with government and create technology solutions with the power to positively transform millions of lives. There are few other opportunities out there to apply your agile knowledge and skills and shape agile delivery in a context like this one. Get in touch if you’d like to get involved.
About the role
As Head of Role for Agile Delivery Management you’ll lead a community of around 120 Agile Delivery Managers in DWP Digital. An expert in your field, you will be the key influencer on how DWP Digital goes about agile delivery.
You understand team culture and you’re an experience coach. You have been through the agile lifecycle countless times, delivering through complex situations. You know agile tools and methodologies inside out, and you stay on top of the latest thinking through your engagement with the wider agile community. You are a leader.
Your leadership will be based on a virtual network; you won’t line manage or task manage Agile Delivery Managers. You’ll champion high-performance agile delivery by supporting capability and the growth of communities and culture among our people, and you’ll accelerate the pace of value delivery.
You’ll link into senior decision makers like the Director General as well as working with stakeholders from a diverse range of backgrounds and seniorities. You’ll also take responsibility for hiring the right new people for DWP, and become the face of Agile Delivery for DWP senior leaders, across government, across industry and in the media.
What key skills, knowledge and experience are we looking for?
- Expert-level coaching of others in agile techniques in a digital environment.
- Extensive experience of delivering a variety of digital projects/services/products using agile and lean techniques through the whole lifecycle.
- Deep experience of using Scrum, Kanban and Lean approaches in a variety of circumstances.
- Providing guidance in the use of modern software development techniques (e.g. pair programming, test driven development etc).
- Managing live digital service support and service management.
- Experience of delivering in a user-centred design environment.
- Experience of working in a complex digital organisation.
