Job description

If you’re creative and curious to learn, want to be empowered to make decisions and challenge the norm, and want to bring BIG ideas to a MASSIVE digital challenge then you’ll love it here. And we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for talented Lead Agile Delivery Managers to join our growing community of experts and become a key part of one of the biggest and highest-profile digital transformation programmes in the world. Using fresh ideas and leading edge technologies – and putting the user at the centre of everything we do – we create innovative digital solutions that make a difference to the lives of our 22 million users.

In DWP you will join an organisation that will value you as an Agile authority, and where you’ll use your skills, leadership and vision to deliver projects that make a real difference to the lives of real people.

Right now, there is an opportunity to shape the way DWP and the rest of government do things. You can help us model and mould future, better ways of working. You’ll change product teams that deliver services into product teams that own and deliver outcomes without fear of failure.

You’ll deliver transformational services that have the power to change DWP, and to change the lives of our friends, families and neighbours and some of the most vulnerable people in the UK.

You and your role

As a Lead Agile Delivery Manager you have a range of responsibilities including, developing delivery roadmaps, digital strategy and solutions, software engineering, business operational process design, user research, user experience design and aspects of policy development.

Our Agile Delivery Managers take a servant lead role. We have responsibility for in-house, cross-functional delivery leadership of teams, managing programmes and ensuring they are commercially viable and deliver value for money.

The work we do is big, important, exciting, and challenging. You’ll need to have a strong, deep knowledge of agile tools and techniques as well as experience bringing clarity, visibility and coherence to complex projects and programmes.

While Agile is already embedded in DWP Digital we are still on our journey. You’ll help mature our agile knowledge and processes. You’ll help us be less vertical and more horizontal in our projects, helping us share data upstream.

You will provide agile leadership, building and supporting multi-disciplinary agile teams. And you’ll help embed agile principles and practices across the wider organisation.

A big part of your role will be managing team dynamics. You’ll build motivated teams that are energised, work well and have confidence to experiment, learn from mistakes, and create a real “safe to fail” environment. You will smooth the path for teams moving forward, removing constraints and barriers to delivery, allowing them to focus on delivering services as efficiently as possible.

What are we looking for?

Where you’ll work

You’ll join us in one of our brilliant, easy-to-reach digital hubs situated in Blackpool, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield. Each of our sites has been designed for and by members of our digital community. We provide the latest tech and tooling and foster a collaborative culture to help our agile, multidisciplinary teams think big and try new things.

You will work alongside people who care passionately about public service, making a difference and delivering for our customers. We’re the UK’s biggest government department with over 80,000 diverse and brilliant people on our team. We are an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications regardless of age, disability, gender, race or sexuality.

Our offer

In return for your skills we offer competitive salary up to £71,864, a brilliant civil service pension, and a generous leave package.

We also have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:

Why join our team?
