Job description

Digital Workplace Project. Digital with Purpose. DWP.

We’re looking for experienced Digital Project Managers to help lead DWP’s Digital Workplace project and become a key part of one of the UK’s biggest and most high-profile digital transformation programmes. If you love solving problems and want to use your skills on projects with real impact, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re delivering a once-in-a-generation reform of products and services that will put world class technology solutions into the hands of the people that need them most, whether that’s the millions that use and rely on DWP services or our brilliant frontline colleagues.

What is Digital Workplace?

It’s big. Over the last two years diverse DWP Digital teams have established Digital Workplace, an agile and multi-disciplinary service that supports over 84,000 employees, using more than 150 distributed cloud applications, operating out of more than 800 UK sites, and powering digital products and services used by more than 20 million people across the UK.

It’s evolving. So far we’ve moved all of our systems to hybrid hosting, removing the constraints of previous outsourced IT contracts, modernising our legacy infrastructure and stabilising performance.

It’s empowering our people and customers through technology. We’re improving communication and collaboration with a mix of new hardware including mini-PCs, Surface Pro laptops and a growing mobile phone network. By upgrading our software with the latest versions of Office 365, Skype for Business and our rebooted staff intranet we’re making sure our people always have the right tools and the latest professional digital skills.

You and your role

You’re an experienced project manager with a background in both Agile and Waterfall approaches. You can lead big projects and programmes end-to-end, you manage teams, stakeholders, risks and budgets, and promote collaboration. You set high standards and deliver value, no matter how complex the landscape and stakeholder environment.

DWP has recently taken ownership and control of Identity & Active Directory services from DXC. This product, known as ‘Identity’ is a foundational 24/7, 365-day service that provides secure access and authentication to all DWP’s data, applications and devices.

Here you will have a lead voice as an integral and flexible part of a small multidisciplinary Identity team which has end-to-end ownership of change, live service, strategy and architecture. You should be comfortable with matrix-management of and with other highly skilled multidisciplinary teams.

You will play a crucial, leading role in delivering technical outcomes around the estate (AD, ADFS, DNS, DND, DHCP etc) in model of mixed private and public cloud provision.

It’s a varied and interesting role and you’ll need to be able to anticipate change, alongside run requirements, to help put your team in the best place to provide a superb customer experience. The ability to navigate change processes (for both infrastructure and large BAU deployments) in a complex stakeholder environment is key.

The role involves delivering change in business critical areas where the impact of failure is high. You’ll need to have the skills and experience to safely deploy change to our massive live estate without unforeseen impact to our users

You understand how pivotal Active Directory and the associated technologies are to an organisation and you can balance capably the delivery of change with the health and stability of the service.

Where will you work?

You’ll join our team in Manchester, the home of Digital Workplace. We’re right on St Peter’s Square so easy to get to by bus, bike, train or tram. You’ll enjoy great facilities and an active local community. Find out more here: https://careers.dwp.gov.uk/our-locations/manchester
