Job description

If you’re creative and curious to learn, want to be empowered to make decisions and challenge the norm, and want to bring BIG ideas to a MASSIVE digital challenge then you’ll love it here. And we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for a talented Lead Service Designer to join our growing community of experts and become a key part of one of the biggest and highest-profile digital transformation programmes in the world.

A seasoned ethical designer, always focusing on personal and professional development, the team will then know how much is required in order for success. We care about our people over anything else.

Using fresh ideas and leading edge technologies – and putting the user at the centre of everything we do – we create innovative digital solutions that make a difference to the lives of our 22 million users.

Building up our service design community

You and your role
You’ll be promoting user centred and service design on a daily basis as well as working with service teams and business areas on their own portfolios of work and embedding service design into them.

Aligning and leading communication with product owners and policy colleagues to define the user journey, you’ll articulate the vision for products and services.

Supporting strategy decisions, advising on best practice and getting involved with senior stakeholders to identify problematic and challenging areas.

We are especially interested in applications if you have:

* Ability to analyse pain points within services and communicate and share design solutions that fulfil user needs and business outcomes.

* Evidence of Lead design direction and strong working knowledge of service design in practice as a recognised industry expert.

* A clear understanding of user needs and design services that support their needs.

* Experience of as-is service design and identifying improvement opportunities.

* Ability to analyse research findings, data, insight gathering, critical thinking and concept generation.

Also applications welcome from:

* Experienced interaction or user experience designers – 5 to 15 years.

Where You’ll Work
You’ll join us at our easy-to-reach digital hub in Sheffield. The hub is a modern, vibrant workplace that was designed for and by members of our digital community.

It has the best of the city on the doorstep and a range of facilities from cafes, coffee shops and restaurants and loads more. Please feel free to get in touch to learn more.

Here at Sheffield though, we provide the latest tech and tooling and foster a collaborative culture to help our agile, multidisciplinary teams think big and try new things. You will work alongside people who care passionately about public service, making a difference and delivering for our customers.

We’re the UK’s biggest government department with over 80,000 diverse and brilliant people on our team. We are an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications regardless of age, gender, race or sexuality.
