We know that better digital services in government will change the face of public services, and our rapidly expanding Developer community is the driving force behind that change.

We think this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for developers to work on a wide variety of projects with the potential to positively transform our organisation and the futures of millions of people.

WHERE YOU’LL WORK

We have easy-to-reach digital hubs in London, Newcastle, Sheffield, Blackpool, Leeds and Manchester and a huge, talented technology presence across the UK, including a thriving community of Developers (216 and counting!).

And because our benefits package includes interest-free loans to buy a bike or a season ticket, it’s even easier for you to get to work and start making a difference.

You can also look forward to other benefits including a very competitive salary of up to £80,431, a generous annual leave allowance, a great pension scheme, and lots more.

ABOUT YOU

As a Lead Software Developer you will provide the technical leadership needed to guide a small team of Software Developers to deliver big results, and you’ll provide oversight to the products they develop.

A skilled practitioner and role model in software craftsmanship, you will be responsible for ensuring best practices are followed across the department and for guiding teams to deliver a quality product.

As a Senior Software Developer you will develop the products which make up our citizen services.

You will be responsible for the operational stability of the products you build, and ensure the on-going robustness and resilience of those products.

You’ll be confident in using open source technologies like Java, JavaScript, Node.js.

You’ll have experience SQL and no-SQL database applications such as Postgres, MySQL, and MongoDB, and you should have used distributed version control systems such as Git.

We serve people from every possible background from all across the UK, and we are looking for applicants who reflect that diversity and who share our values on equality.

OUR TECH ECOSYSTEM

You’ll have access to a huge suite of training and learning opportunities to complement the new skills and experience you’ll acquire on the job, as well as the chance to share knowledge with colleagues from across the tech community and via our coaching and mentoring programmes.

And with the career pathways we’re developing you’ll have the opportunity to progress into more senior roles in DWP or the wider Civil Service.
