Job description
No two days are the same as an Oracle DBA. There is a real opportunity here to impact and input into the shaping of the live environment, business-as-usual and quality of service output delivered. You’ll be a part on one of the biggest transformation programmes in Europe, providing services that have far-reaching and pivotal roles in citizens’ lives.
In BPDTS Ltd you will be part of an organisation responsible for the delivery of digital platforms and services, real-time analytics and flexible infrastructure, providing secure and resilient services to DWP. Joining an innovative, supportive, and fast growing community of skilled digital professionals you will work in agile and creative ways to improve public services, with the power to make a difference to the lives of 22 million UK citizens.
You and your role
This is no ordinary Oracle DBA role. This is an opportunity to impact the design, proof of concept, patching, maintenance of database and build of environments. The scale of our enterprise is enormous, boasting the management of an estate of over 800 databases; supporting business critical databases, test environments, production, pre-production, disaster recovery, performing relational database management, even branching out into DevOps Cloud.
It’s a role with great scope and variety, and you’ll also take care of day-to-day management of ORACLE, user administration and audit user activity, performance tuning, monitoring and event management, Managing and controlling Security, root cause analysis.
Other database experience would be considered but, honestly, ORACLE skills are really what we’re looking for. In return you’ll be inducted into a network of Database Administrators who share, develop and build our bespoke knowledge management systems (also highly valued externally) with lots of training and development opportunities, and chances to segue into other parts of our agile ecosystem (e.g Devops and SRE roles)
What skills and experience are we looking for?
- You are a curious contributor: you have practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service
- You’re a DBA product and tech whizz; you have proven experience working as a Production DBA supporting business critical databases (production, pre-production, disaster recovery as well as test environments
- You’re an ORACLE oracle; you have proven experience in providing Level 2 Database support on Oracle Databases
- You’re comfortable with ambiguity; you can adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions and to cope effectively with complexity and change
Where will you work?
You’ll join us in one of our easy-to-reach digital hubs in Newcastle.
Each of our nationwide hubs has been designed for and by members of our digital community. We provide the latest tech and tooling and foster a collaborative culture to help our agile, multi-disciplinary teams think big and try new things.
