We’re looking for talented RPA Application Engineers to join DWP and become a key part of one of the UK’s biggest and most high-profile digital transformation programmes, a once-in-a-generation reform of government products and services.

This is an exciting time to join DWP Digital. We are transforming the way we deliver our services to meet the evolving needs of society and our workforce of 86,000. The RPA Applications Engineer role sits right at the heart of that transformation.
IAG is dedicated to pioneering applications of artificial intelligence, such as robotic automation, virtual assistants, machine learning and data analytics. We’re creating a best-of-breed toolset for emerging technologies, to build in-house capability, standardise practices and scale deployments.
We’re building a virtual workforce, including deployment of computer vision technology, attended RPA, natural language processing, deep learning, optical character recognition and cognitive tools. We want to remove repetitive, mundane and error-prone tasks to free up our brilliant frontline DWP colleagues for the work that they really love and which AI is not (yet) equipped for.
With a focus on intelligent technology, citizen-led design, and automation, we’re developing an omnichannel service that will provide a high quality, integrated and seamless customer experience and save up to £450m by 2023.

What will you be doing?
As RPA Application Engineer in DWP’s Intelligent Automation Garage (IAG) you will deliver quality automated solutions across DWP, following IAG methodology and standards and support with the creation of solution designs, UAT testing and supporting BAU activities.
We are looking for talented engineers, with experience of delivering in digitally enabled transformation programmes, to drive work to develop and implement our Digital Capability Strategy.You will be a trusted advisor to senior officials, helping to make informed strategic choices in how they deliver their programmes.
As our senior RPA Applications Engineer you will facilitate communication of technical findings, models, and insights to different technical and non-technical audiences and Provide coaching and mentoring to Application Engineer colleagues and peers.
Your main focus will be Robotics Process Automation however many of our innovative projects will also involve OCR, Computer Vision, Character Recognition and Natural Language Processing.
You will join either the Delivery or Live Service teams within Intelligent Automation Garage, working in a fast-paced environment following agile principles to deliver and run high quality business critical automations.
What skills and experience are we looking for?
Essential Criteria
- Industry experience and knowledge of object orientated programming language such as Java, C#.
- Industry experience and knowledge of using and invoking web services (such as REST API).
Desirable Skills / Knowledge
- Knowledge or skills in working with relational databases (Oracle, My SQL, SQL server)
- Previous experience using RPA vendors/platforms
- Ideally familiarity within an Agile environment
Please note this role may require 3rd line support and there will be an out of hours on call rota, for which an additional allowance is available.
