About you and your role:
Working as a Security Alert Analyst you will monitor systems to detect potential indicators of compromise for the UK’s largest government department. When security alerts are generated by the analytical tools and capabilities which operate across DWP systems and networks, you will lead first stage categorisation and investigation
You’ll be responsible for interpreting reports and dashboard. You’ll usie your knowledge of security risks and vulnerabilities to ensure an effective response to alerts. You will also understand when it is appropriate escalate potential incidents, collating and presenting all necessary information to others, to enable immediate and accurate investigations.
You will support the development of theoretical rules to deploy and test across large data sets. We’ll work together to continually review and refine those rules to ensure high quality outputs are maintained and supplied to stakeholders across DWP’s wide estate.
We have two opportunities to join the DWP as a Security Alert analyst:
1st role – You’ll working in Manchester as part of a team working continental shifts (including nights, weekends and Bank Holidays) to provide 24/7 monitoring coverage. A shift allowance may be applicable.
2nd role – You’ll work in your choice of Manchester, Leeds, London or Newcastle as part of a core hours’ team, working flexible hours, but providing cover between 7am and 7pm Monday to Friday. There may also be some requirement for on-call working out of hours. Within this role there is the potential for successful applicants to specialize in more forensic-based work in the future.
What skills, knowledge and experience are we looking for?
- Experience of working in an IT based industry in a cyber-security role or completion of a cyber-security focused qualification or apprenticeship
- Familiar with SIEM products such as LogRythym, Exabeam Splunk, Arcsight etc. and an understanding of their capabilities as monitoring tools
- Some experience in categorizing alerts to identify potential indicators of compromise; where appropriate gathering all necessary information before referring to Tier 2 analysts for in-depth investigation
- Experience of working in an operationally-focused delivery team, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and respond flexibly to competing demands and organise work accordingly
- Familiar in the use of project collaboration tools
