Job description

DWP. Digital with Purpose.
We’re looking for a talented Senior Data Domain Architect to be one of DWP Digital’s growing community of experts. Someone who will manage and deliver aspects of Data domain architecture activities to meet our customer needs.

In this role you will support the development of strategies, blueprints, reference architectures and design patterns for data.

You will share your Data domain knowledge and experience to drive IT strategy, including definition of the tools and techniques most appropriate for the environment.

You’ll be part of a small core team of Domain Architects helping to describe, and ensure conformance of, DWP Digital solutions (products and services) to agreed architecture policies, principles and patterns.

You will be supporting the Lead Data Domain Architect, deliver and promote architecture patterns and solutions for the data domain.

With your understanding of data domain-related IT industry trends – emergence of new technology challenges and capabilities – you will formulate authoritative and expert advice to a Lead Domain Architect in their Data domain advice and governance role.

You’re a champion of Solution communications. You can make the complex simple to understand in your support of delivery teams, and you’ll blend technical and behaviour skills.

Contributing to technology roadmaps for the data domain, you will identify, capture, share and refine reference patterns and architectures, and technology choices, to ensure consistent and coherent architecture design, contributing to the Enterprise Architecture.

Communication will be key, as on a regular basis you interact with a wide range of contacts, including Solution Architects to create solution options and recommendations – during project discovery and inceptions phases.

You’ll take the initiative with the governance of solution designs. You will approve architecture decisions and technology choices. As well as supporting the delivery of a data technology roadmap by utilising your understanding of industry trends and research in the data domain.

Working closely with projects, you will ensure their design artefacts are at the appropriate standard for the Design Authority and Design patterns are correctly referenced and that all artefacts are in line.

What skills and experience are we looking for?

• Data strategies, blueprints, reference architectures and design patterns.

• Conceptual, logical and physical data modelling and design

• Database design / modelling, technologies, design patterns, tools and best practice (including RDBMS, NoSQL and Open Source)

• Public cloud technologies, cloud hosting, and best practice (e.g. Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform).

• Analytics and Big Data design / modelling, technologies, design patterns, tools and best practice

Where will you work?
You’ll join our team with a base office at one of our Digital Hubs at either Blackpool, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle OR Sheffield.
