This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and innovative ETL Developer to help us transform data management and data services.
You will join our thriving Data & Analytics practice, transforming data management and data services for DWP’s critical projects and programmes.

This is valuable work. Our team helps support and protect citizens and ensure they are supported. You’ll work on colossal data-lakes transforming raw data into quality data-sets.
You’ll provide technical leadership and stakeholder management skills and play a key part in driving a strategic solution and leading the transformation agenda.
You’ll be versatile and adaptable employing varied project Management techniques and methodologies like Agile Waterfall or Kanban. The scope and scale of this data is wide and complex and you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and those of your team within this challenging environment.
What will I be doing?
- Lead the shaping of solutions, ensuring strategic fit, following the agreed principles and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Data Engineer Development lifecycle.
- Develop automated data ingest routines, complex workflows and mappings for structured and unstructured data, development of complex data products.
- Accountable for translating complex user requirements and Data models into effective, robust ETL solutions in line with build standards and ensure code is production ready.
- Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of ETL standards and for ensuring adherence by the wider community.
- Design, develop and unit-test mappings and workflows adhering to standards and practices.
- Ensure that reusable code is accessible and deployed for productionised ETL jobs.
What skills & experience we are looking for?
- You will have a strong technical background in SAP Data Services, UNIX and Business Objects.
- You will have a deep understanding of the technical aspects of analytical design and delivery, including traditional ETL processes, big data platforms and lake engineering, data management (quality, metadata), business intelligence tooling (eg Qlik, Business Objects) and how these fit into the wider technical landscape.
- You will be skilled at engaging with diverse range stakeholders and colleagues to foster collaboration, innovation, creativity and constructive challenge and will be adept at identifying, iterating and taking forward ideas that add slices of tangible business value.
- working knowledge and experience of SQL scripting preferably within a DB2 environment.
- Experience of Project Management methodologies (E.g Agile and Waterfall) and an ability to understand user stories/convert business requirements/data requests (from internal/external stakeholders) into technical data solutions.
- Aware of the need to translate technical concepts into non-technical language and understands what communication is required to internal and external stakeholders.
