Job description
DWP. Digital with Purpose.
We are looking for a Test Engineer, ideally with experience in a DataWorks service environment to work with us on in a once-in-a-generation digital transformation. Our people work on projects that are revolutionising products and services that are used by millions of people every day.
We know that better digital services in government will mean better public services. Using fresh ideas and leading edge technologies – and putting the user at the centre of everything we do – we create innovative digital solutions that make a difference to the lives of our 22 million users.
Duties. Work. Projects.
You’ll join our DataWorks service team. We’re responsible for developing and providing the DataWorks Service and its products.
DataWorks is the DWP platform for Universal Credit. We provide analytical functionality and support operational capability directly for 300+ users across the data science, analytical and finance communities as well as supplying data to other parts of DWP and Government.
Working within an exciting environment that is friendly, creative and supportive, you will make a valued contribution that will help shape the delivery of one of the highest profile datasets in UK Government. UC data is rapidly growing in importance as other legacy benefit systems converge onto Universal Credit and as it responds to recent events.
You’ll join our team as a Test Engineer. You’ll be responsible for the testing of data applications and products which make up the DataWorks service.
This includes defining the appropriate depth and breadth of testing using a risk based approach, and ensuring the stability, robustness and reliability of test suites. You will work with other teams too to ensure that technical solutions are aligned.
Our test Engineers are responsible for developing and delivering all aspects of test approaches and activities to meet the needs of our users. You’ll shape test solutions, ensuring they fit the team and our strategy. Our test engineers also develop, own, maintain and ensure adherence to standards across the Data Test Engineer community and look for ways to do things better.
What are we looking for?
- You can identify simple patterns and trends. You collaborate with stakeholders to investigate problems and find opportunities in existing processes, and you contribute to recommending solutions.
- You can review requirements, specifications and defines test conditions.
- You can identify issues and risks associated with work whilst being able to analyse and report test activities and results.
- You can design and execute non-functional test cases using standard testing techniques, in instructed environments.
- You can come up with different business scenarios for a feature, working with others in the team and can select and support the most appropriate tool or method.
- You have experience in applying Agile principles in practice and you can visualise and make visible the work of the team.
- You can adapt, you reflect, you are resilient and have the ability to see outside of the process.
- You work with others to identify areas for improvement and simplify processes to use fewer resources, and use technology where possible to increase efficiency.
- You have a positive approach to keeping the whole team’s efforts focused on the top priorities, promoting a culture where we innovate as we deliver.
